Started in 1983, the ADN Program has
graduated many now successful RNs. Our graduates can be found in the emergency
department, dialysis units, intensive care units, labor and delivery not to mention
medical-surgical units across the area. Our program
provides strong clinical experiences as well as challenging didactic classwork.
Courses are taught by a team of instructors using a variety
of teaching strategies in order to meet the needs of our highly kinesthetic
student population. Class is often designed with small group work, hands on
practice as well as discussion groups along with traditional lecture. Students are expected to utilize
all previously learned content as they advance through 5 semesters.
NUR 110 is the Fundamentals Course. Students learn basic
assessment techniques as well as skills needed to provide basic care to one
client.
NUR 120 includes basic medical-surgical components and obstetrics and
the childbearing client. Students begin learning about diseases, treatment
choices and nursing interventions.
NUR 130 continues with medical-surgical content.
NUR 210 encompasses 2 specialty areas - psychiatric nursing
and pediatric nursing as well as med-surg. Students spend 5 weeks in each clinical setting learning about these
special clients.
NUR 220 is the final semester!! This course completes the med-surg
content. It also pulls together all previously learned information and
covers critical care and multi-system illnesses. Students experience
leadership roles in the clinical setting as well as participate in a 7 week
preceptorship. Each student is paired up with a Registered Nurse in the
community and shadows his/her schedule. Graduates consistently share that this
is their most rewarding experience here. At the conclusion of the 5
semesters, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
